Clare Wedderburn
I have lived in Cranborne for 3 years and have become increasingly involved with village activities and events. I work as a GP with the South Coast Medical Group in Bournemouth and have had a passion for medical education for the last 20 years. I currently run the GP vocational training scheme programme for Dorset which is based at Bournemouth University as the Associate Dean for Postgraduate GP Education and I have a team of 9 Programme Directors who teach on the weekly programme. I still teach and have a responsibility for a year 2 GP trainee group who I run action learning set style tutorials each month. At my GP surgery I teach medical students and Foundation doctors.
Since 2008 I have represented Wessex region on the Multi specialty Recruitment assessment examination. I write multiple choice questions (clinical problem solving) and also professional dilemma questions for the national exam. I have also worked for the Association for the Study of Medical Education (ASME) as their treasurer and was involved with this international organisations for 3 years. I have been the Wessex representative at the Royal College of General Practitioners and was the Vice Chair for this organisation for 3 years. More recently I was appointed as the Head of Department for Medical Sciences and Public Health at Bournemouth University and lead a department which runs a number of Master programmes and programmes for junior doctors, GPs and hospital consultants. Under my leadership we have commenced a new Physician Associate programme and have introduced a Masters programme for medical imaging and have a diagnostic radiography programme in the pipeline.
I have a Diploma in Medical Education and in all my leadership roles, ensure quality of education delivery and ensure that the taught curriculum meets both regional and national criteria and that standards are high and governance processes are robust.
I would absolutely love to be considered for the role of governor at Cranborne School and believe that my knowledge and skills would compliment this role. I have of course also experienced school education with both my daughters who went through GCSEs, A levels and now university education so have experienced education from the side of a parent as well as a lecturer academic.
