Y7 English homework - Mrs Eadie
We're looking at detective fiction this term. To help you write your own story at the end of the unit, let's see what you can find out about how detectives use forensic science. Use the link below to help you create a leaflet or poster explaining all the different techniques they use. Try to explain how these help them solve crimes. Due Tuesday 7th May https://www.explainthatstuff.com/forensicscience.html 25/4/2019 Coastal ErosionYear 7 are preparing for their coast trip to Hengistbury Head early next term by understanding the processes of coastal erosion and weathering. For homework they are developing their own flip books (either on paper or using a computer) to show their understanding. Examples they could base their work upon are below. Try and show a picture of a cliff, a crack, a cave, an arch, a pillar, a stack, a stump and a wave cut platform (or reef). There maybe others like blow holes or a wave cut notch you would like to show.
17/3/2019 STEM comes to Dorset. The Big Bang event has been running nationwide for several years but this year is the first time it has come to Dorset. Our Year 7 pupils were fortunate enough to attend this event held at The Tank Museum in Bovington. The event aims to raise the profile of careers and opportunities in the STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) and encourage pupils to ‘have a go’ at numerous activities during their visit.
Our afternoon started with a superb practical workshop that explained some of the ways we use science in everyday applications throughout our lives. Our Year 7’s were engrossed in the demonstration and hands were shooting up left, right and centre to be involved , especially when one task involved pouring a cup of water over Mrs Williams’s head! Our afternoon continued with time to explore the many stalls, exhibits and companies who were all keen to show and tell just how STEM was involved in their work. Pupils had a thoroughly enjoyable and informative trip. Mrs Williams 17/3/2019 Year 7 girls County Cup FootballAfter an exciting county cup semi-final match against Atlantic Academy, the Year 7 girls faced a very strong Parkstone Grammar School side which fielded two county players. Despite the Cranborne team playing their socks off, the opposition were just too strong for us and we lost the game 5-0.
Congratulations to Emilie who was awarded player of the match for our team. 13/3/2019 Let Battle Commence!Three Y7 English groups (Mrs Eadie's, Miss Darville's and Mrs Gillies') have been challenged to see which class can be first to read (and quiz) on 40 books. We've set them a list of children's classics and award winning books to choose from and they need to work as a team to complete the challenge. The first team to finish will receive a lesson off timetable and there are even rumours of ice-creams.... The rules: - Everyone in the group must read at least one book from the list. - It must be a book they have not read before. - Everyone needs to pass a quiz on the book they have read. Good luck Y7. May the best group win!

The team arrived at The Blandford School, who had kindly offered the use of their pitch after crows and rabbits had feasted on ours, full of enthusiasm and energy.
After winning the toss, we kicked off and promptly scored within the first minute after a great lone effort by Emilie who beat about 6 defenders and calmly popped the ball in the back of the net. The game continued to move from end to end at a phrenetic pace and it was 4-2 by the time the whistle went for half time. Having put everything into the first half, Cranborne kept fighting against two superb players from Atlantic Academy who must have hit the post four times throughout the game. Our keeper, Katie, was excellent in keeping out some of the long-range shots and kept us in the game. The defence had a lot of work to do in the second half but they battled on and never gave up. A special mention goes to Scarlett who produced some super clearances when we really needed them. By the final whistle, Cranborne had managed to gain a 7-5 victory. Well deserved and well fought. We now wait to hear who our opponents will be in the semi-final stages of the cup. It will be the winner of Allenbourn Vs Parkstone Grammar. Whoever it may be, we will be ready for them! Well done to Emilie on achieving the player of the match after her double hatrick. Mrs Williams 11/1/2019 Kung Fu Plate TectonicsWhy not get ready for your plate tectonics tests with some kung fu?
