After a hugely successful cross country season, Nathan clinches the title of PEDSSA Area Champion after a great win at Ferndown today. Nathan had managed to produce another stunning run after also winning at Canford, Sandbanks and Baiter.
Congratulations also go to all our other runners who represented CMS today and completing a tough course around a muddy field then some tough and hilly heathland terrain: Year 5: L Patience(70), T Harman(110), O Clarke(145) Year 6: N Swift(1), H Corbin(20), A Whitfield(38), O Styles(50), A Gillard (71) Year 7: T Simpkins (3), W Harwood (13), T Rodway (20), J Garland (29), H Patience (31) Year 7: E Hiett (15), L Dixon (16), L Harman (27), A Pudney (29) Year 8: G Corbin (25), Z Morrish (39), J Watson (43), L Giles (50) 5/12/2019 Green Fingers are good for you!On Thursday 28th November Freya, Scarlett, Harry, Maddi' and I went to help with a gardening project after school. Joined by staff and governors, we were trying to prepare the area outside of reception for the Spring flowers, which will be appearing here before too long.
I found the time fun; it’s a great pastime to do with your friends. We can’t wait to see the effect our work has had on our lovely garden. By Ruby in 8MG 28/11/2019 Quagmire Camp!On Monday 25th November Mr Mosely gave a twist to our Cross Country Club. We did a challenge called “Boot Camp”! It included tyre flipping, which was hard; under and over; the killer burpees; press up combat; and finally the plank. We got very murky, perhaps as muddy as a mud monster that had slept in a quagmire for the last three months. It was great!
By Harry, James and Jack in 6JG 28/11/2019 Badminton goes down a storm! We were fortunate to have Ali Donnolly from Community Badminton in school on Wednesday 27th November to work with PE groups. Each group got to experience a range of activities that linked to badminton and the skills involved in the sport. Ali was superb in how she delivered the sessions and engaged all the children. Many found new talents they didn't know they had and are now keen to pursue the sport further. If any pupils that participated in the badminton sessions want to try it out, Community Badminton host sessions at Emmanuel Sports Hall in Verwood on Thursdays. Children will be given flyers to bring home with more information. 24/11/2019 Amazing Archaeologists Ask and Answer! On Friday 15th November all of year six went to Stonehenge. We went to this historic place to find out some information about the ancient stones and see how they were built compared to a particular Egyptian pyramid. We found out lots of interesting facts such as: The arrangement of the stones seems to be specifically in that order so they could tell the movement of the sun and therefore the time of year; the first metal object appeared in 2400BC and the first major construction at Stonehenge was the ‘Curcus’. At the stones, the guides answered any questions we had about Stonehenge and gave us pieces of information that we needed for our workbooks. Another way we found out facts is by walking round and looking at the noticeboards around the stones. There was huts from the Neolithic period, which were built by staff from the ATC here in Cranborne. The houses had thatch rooves and small brown doors. Inside the buildings, there were weaved beds of wood, shelves, a dip in the floor for a fire and different types of tools for example, arrows and spears. Inside the expedition, they had clay models of Stonehenge alongside details of probably why it was built and perhaps how it was constructed; nobody knows for sure. We are now using all of this information at school to compare this four thousand five hundred year old monument with the Great Pyramid of Giza, in Egypt, which was built at about the same time in history. By Katie D and Katy HM in 6JG 11/11/2019 Charity Speech Final successA HUGE well done to everyone who competed in the final of our Y7 speeches competition. With the theme of 'It's our future' you truly inspired us with your passion and knowledge. Extra special congratulations go to our winner, Lauren. The judges had a tough decision but Lauren won them over with her speech in support of Surfers Against Sewage. This will now become our school charity for the year. 10/11/2019 Dorset Gymnastics Competition.A huge well done needs to go to all the gymnasts who competed in the Dorset Schools Tumbling Competition that took place at Rossmore Leisure Centre in Poole on Sunday 10th November.
Pupils had been working hard at our after-school gym club on perfecting their routines ready for the big day. With a few nerves and a little apprehension, the pupils arrived to warm up, followed by two individual tumble runs on the main mat in front of the judges and the crowd of spectators. They all performed admirably but didn’t manage to make it through to the finals on this occasion. Very proud moment when the organiser came over to us and complimented our pupils on being impeccably well-behaved whilst they had been sat waiting for the other competitors to perform. E Praise accolades all round! Well done everyone for your effort and hard work. 7/11/2019 A tough mudder for sure!Today saw the third round of the Poole and East Dorset Cross Country Championships at Baiter Park in Poole. Despite the conditions on arrival being favourable, the recent downpours had left the course extremely wet and muddy. After a quick warm-up and a check of the course, most of us were already as muddy as we could be and we also had sopping wet feet!
Every pupil that ran put their heart and soul into and they all managed to negotiate the course safely, returning in one, albeit very muddy, piece. Some outstanding individual mentions should go to Nathan in year 6 who finished first by a country mile. This is his third first placing out of three. Tom S in Year 7 finished an impressive 8th in his race with a spectacular slip ans slide into the finishing funnel. Erin H also finished well in an excellent 11th place. In Year 8, Zach M was our highest finishing runner crossing the line in 31st place. Although conditions were tough, all the pupils did themselves proud and thoroughly enjoyed splashing around in the muddy puddles! Mrs Williams 26/10/2019 Our fabulous first half term in year 5Initially we were nervous about getting used to middle school life, but we soon began to find our way around; within days we knew every room in the whole school.
More importantly, we’ve made lots of Friends: Melissa, Blossom, Lily, Ellie and many more. There are lots of friendly year eights, sevens and sixes who are always free to help us; as well as everyone else, we have our very own buddies. “Buddy Time” is a tutor time we look forward to; our buddies are Darcie and Daisy – year eights who are paired up with us to help us settle in - and they have helped us fly through the first term with a smile on our faces. Together we have enjoyed a blindfold obstacle course, an aeroplane design competition and have made an amazingly high tower of paper. All our teachers and the other staff have been really helpful and kind too. We are enjoying all of our lessons and are looking forward to our second half term, knowing we are now a full and established part of Cranborne Middle School. By Evie and Heidi in 5ERo 16/10/2019 A great day of sport! Our first tutor day of the year saw a multitude of different sports being enjoyed by all ages in the Inter House competitions. Every single pupil had the opportunity to represent their house (Castle, Chase, Church or Crane) in either football, netball, table tennis or boccia. The weather was unfortunately not on our side and the netballers had to retreat indoors to the Gym but this didn't stop some great performances. The boys braved the wet and muddy conditions and continued with their football out on the field. Again, some dogged and determined performances saw some great games of football take place. Year 5,6 and 7 pupils also had the chance to show off their table tennis skills with some competitive 1 v 1 performances. Pupils in all years also tried boccia - an inclusive sport similar to bowls - that allowed them to demonstrate their tactical prowess! This game was great for anyone with an injury as it can be played sitting down, standing up or kneeling if necessary and involves no running around! If you want to see how each year group got on and who was the winning house, please click on the link to the powerpoint below. I would like to thank all the Year 8 sports leaders who did a superb job of refereeing, umpiring, managing, scoring and organising throughout the morning. For their first true experience in their new roles as leaders, they were excellent role models to our younger pupils. Well done and thank you. Mrs Williams
