We are delighted to be able to inform you that Ethan has been selected to represent the England Karate Federation National Karate Squad! He went to two selection sessions in Walsall in January and February before they finally notified Ethan of their decisions a few evenings ago. Needless to say, both Ethan and his mum, Sarah were thrilled!
This means that Ethan will have to train monthly with the England Squad (usually in Walsall) until he is hopefully selected to take part in International competitions representing the England squad. This probably won't be until he's 14 and in the cadets category, but he's hoping it might be sooner! Huge congratulations to Ethan for all his hard work and dedication to his sport. After a hugely successful PEDSSA cross country season, Cranborne finished off their season with more great results at the Canford relays event. Our Year 6 boys finished in second place in the team event with Nathan gaining an individual silver medal.
Our Year 7 boys produced some excellent performances to see them win the team title and achieve an individual bronze medal through a great sprint finish from Tom S! Well done also to Erin, our Year 7 girl who competed alone after a series of illness and injury prevented the rest of her team from competing. 5/2/2020 New Fundraising Project LaunchOn Monday, Mr Hilder and Miss Jennings launched our new fundraising project for 2020. Following on from last year's success of raising enough money for brand new lockers for every pupil, we hope to transform the tired looking 'LRC' into a vibrant and flexible learning space with an improved school library. These images are one possible idea for how the room could look (add in the books of course): We have two big fundraising events that we would like you (our school community) to get behind:
1. The Cranborne Lotto. It's £5 a ticket each month with prizes of £75, £50 and £25 guaranteed. Please sign-up to this as 100% of profit made goes straight into this fundraising project. Sign-up details can be found on the 'Fundraising' tab above but make sure you sign-up by Sunday 9th February to be entered into this month's draw. Do it now! 2. During next half-term, there will be an ongoing sponsored reading event. Pupils will select 9 small milestones to achieve throughout the 6 weeks and will aim to collect as much sponsorship money as possible for this. We will then have a very exciting and rewarding prize for the tutor group who collectively raises the most money (as well as many individual prizes for pleasing efforts). Last Wednesday, the school put on two information sessions for parents/carers about the statutory end of KS2 assessments (SATs). In two well attended sessions, Mrs Gillies and Mr Hilder explained what the SATs are, why the SATs are done and how the children can be supported in preparing for the tests. The presentation can be viewed below or on the 'Parents' tab of the school website. Thank you to everyone who gave up their time to attend - it was much appreciated. Mrs Gillies and Mr Hilder
Congratulations to the Year 7 Girls team and the Year 8 Girls team who both managed to achieve a place in the School Games' Finals at Bryanston School in June after tremendous efforts at the PEDSSA Indoor Rowing Competition on Monday. The Year 7 girls finished in first place and the Year 8 girls came second. Well done also to the Year 7 and 8 boys teams who both finished a very respectable fourth place in their age-group competitions against some extrremely tough opposition. Please click on the link below for more detailed team results.
27/1/2020 Here we row!!Cranborne emerged victorious with a haul of TEN medals at today’s East Dorset Indoor Rowing event at Canford School in Wimborne. A team of 16 Year 7 and 8 pupils were selected to represent CMS at the highly competitive event.
Each pupil had to row for a set time ( 2 minutes for Yr7, 3 minutes for Yr8) on a Concept 2 machine that was wired to a big screen so all the competitors could track their progress. The pace was fast and furious and the volume, deafening at times with all the encouragement and words of support being yelled at teammates! The standard was high across all the schools but I am delighted to report that CMS came away with three gold medals (Ewan, Hermione and Lucy) and seven silver medals (Miriam, Emilie, Jacob, Tom, Blake, Lauren and Tilly) for reaching set standards. As if that wasn’t enough, each age group team then had to compete in an 8 minute rowing relay, swapping and changing roles and positions several times whilst trying to maintain speed and accuracy! A special mention needs to be made here for the Yr7 girls team who, not only managed to win their relay, but managed to beat the boys scores in doing so!!! All the individual scores as well as the team relay score will be added together to create an overall total for each age group. We can only hope we have done enough to go through to the School Games Finals to be held at Bryanston School in the summer. Fingers crossed! 🤞🏻 Keep checking back for the detailed results which I will post when they come through. Thank you to Katrina Cole, East Dorset’s School Games Organiser, for running the event, and to British Rowing for providing the technology and know how to make the event run so smoothly. A great experience for all our pupils. Year 7 Girls: Kirsten, Tilly, Lucy, Lauren Year 7 Boys: Tom, Reece, Abraham, Blake Year 8 Girls: Hermione, Emilie, Miriam, Scarlett Year 8 Boys: Ewan, Hayden, Tom, Jacob Mrs Williams 20/12/2019 Christmas Carols for CranborneOn Monday 16th December, in the evening with parents, and then in front of the whole school the following morning, we celebrated Christmas as a community with a variety of Christmas songs, readings and poetry. Below is a sample of pictures and a poem, which was read. 'Twas the day before the Christmas holidays, when all through the school
Everyone was excited for the season of Yule (even Mr Phelps); The lockers had been emptied outside the classrooms with care, In hopes that there would be a nice smell when next we were there; Into assembly the children softly did tread; While visions of home time danced in their heads; Teachers in Christmas hats, or Santa ties, Entertained them with the Staff Band as the seconds ticked by. When by the table tennis tables Mr Bracken noticed a clatter, He sprang from his leaf blower to see what was the matter. Running up the steps he flew like a flash, Dropped the leaf blower, then slid on the mash …. The rain on the breast of the almost blown leaves, Gave a lustre of mystery to CMS’s greens, When what to our caretaker’s wondering eyes did appear, But a miniature sleigh and eight tiny rein-deer, With a little old driver so lively and quick, Mr Bracken knew in a moment he had seen St. Nick. More rapid than eagles his coursers they came, And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name: "Now, Dasher! now, Dancer! now Prancer and Vixen! On, Comet! on, Cupid! on, Donner and Blitzen! Cranborne is my favourite! It is the top school! I bring Christmas well wishes and joy to you this yule! 13/12/2019 Reading Recommendations (Y5>Y8)https://www.amazon.co.uk/shop/tomtolkien?listId=4T700QIKUXAB Year 7

A huge thank you to the whole of Cranborne First School who sat beautifully and were thoroughly entertained by the choirs' beautiful repertoire. After having a quick break back at CMS we loaded onto the buses and headed for our first venue, Castlepoint, which is a new addition for this year. Despite the pouring rain, the choir sang their songs beautifully to an umbrella covered crowd. With everyone back on the buses and lunch eaten the coaches headed for Sainsbury's, Ferndown. A chance to be indoors meant lots of smiling faces and another large crowd of shoppers, many of whom stopped their shopping to listen. As always, Haskins - our last stop - is the busiest. There were many parents and grandparents waiting for us as we arrived and once the singing started members of the public were drawn to the beautiful harmonies filling the garden area. Throughout the whole day it was lovely to see members of the public stopping to complement our children on their beautiful singing and there were a number of people brought to tears by Somewhere Only We Know and In My Memory. A huge congratulations to all pupils who braved the weather to bring some Christmas cheer. Finally, a huge thanks to Miss Jennings, Mrs Trepess and Miss Collins who put together this beautiful set and have spent weeks rehearsing with the choir. |
