Rosemary Tong
My early career was spent teaching English in large secondary schools in Kent, Essex and Dorset. When my husband was appointed head of Queen Elizabeth’s School Wimborne I joined Hampshire as a local authority inspector for secondary schools, working in and around Southampton and leading Ofsted inspections nationwide. After local government reorganisation I joined Southampton LA as an inspector, becoming Chief Inspector and then Assistant Director of Children’s Services. I next worked for the DfE supporting low performing schools in Bournemouth and the south west and continued working as an independent consultant as I gradually retired in 2019.
I was a Dorset magistrate for 20 years. My experience as a governor started with chairmanship of a Sixth Form College in Southampton, and then at Wimborne St Giles First School for 12 years. I joined the Diocese of Salisbury Multi-Academy Trust as a Trustee in 2018 and am now vice-chair of the Board of Trustees.
I’ve lived in Gussage St Michael for over 20 years, enjoying gardening and walking, and keeping bees.
