Welcome from the Chair of Governors

Welcome to the governors’ section of the Cranborne Middle School website.
We are a Local Authority maintained community school which is pupil focused. Our watchword for future development is always ‘will it benefit the pupils?’ The excitement and curiosity for learning go hand in hand with pupils ability to achieve their full potential. Our enthusiastic and dedicated team of teachers work hard to provide inspiring lessons that both engage and challenge our pupils. We maintain a balanced and varied curriculum that aims to prepare pupils to be thoughtful, caring and active citizens in a constantly changing world.

We value the importance of sport in developing a healthy lifestyle, motivation and team spirit, all of which maximise success throughout the curriculum, and we provide many opportunities for the development of musical and dramatic talent. Pupils benefit from a wide range of extra-curricular activities, overseas visits and residential experiences.
Close links with our first schools enable a smooth transition, and similarly there is ongoing liaison with our secondary schools with visits and transfer of academic and pastoral information to the appropriate staff.
The progress of our pupils from year 5 to Year 8 is outstanding, and our combined scores in our Key Stage 2 SATS exams have improved significantly over the last 3 years, and in particular the Maths results this year were excellent, and are now significantly higher than the Dorset and National averages.
We are delighted with our recent Ofsted report in June 2019 which rated us as Good in all 4 areas - Effectiveness of leadership and management, Quality of teaching, learning and assessment, Personal development, behaviour and welfare and Outcomes for pupils.
As a team of 7 co-opted community governors,1 LA governor and 2 parent governors [one vacancy at present] we work with the school leaders in setting the direction of the school, and holding them to account for the delivery of the best possible education within our resources, and we assist them in developing the school team to achieve that. To that end we meet regularly as a whole board, in committees and individually with school leaders ,other members of staff and the school council. We attend parent evenings and school events, and governors can be contacted via the clerk to the governors on dwarner@cranbornemid.sch.dorset.uk.
If you would like to find out more about joining our team of governors, do please contact the Chair via our clerk as above.

Best wishes
Dr Sandi Malpas
