Sky Living for Sport

Despite a rather unusual disruption to the school day, Monday saw our Year 8 Sports Leaders participate in their first Sky Living for Sport project workshop. We were lucky enough to receive a visit from not only Jake Sheaf, a GB beach volleyball player but also Thinus Delport, an ex Gloucester and Springboks rugby player!
Jake kick-started the day with a session that highlighted his own personal journey from starting out as a young sports player to his current accolade of being one half of GB's top ranked beach volleyball pairing.
The group then headed to the Gym to gain some volleyball experience. Jake began by teaching the Sports Leaders the basic skills necessary to play the game well before moving on to more complex strategies that involved teamwork and communication.

Thinus Delport, as a Senior Athlete Mentor, observed Jake throughout his day at CMS, assisting him with his volleyball session as well as finding time to sign the odd rugby ball and lunchbox!

Jake also worked the Sports Leaders hard on their problem solving skills by setting them several challenges that they had to overcome by working together, listening to one another and involving everyone.
Whilst the rest of the school headed home due to a burst water pipe, the Sports Leaders stayed to complete their workshop with Jake discussing with them the Six Keys To Success: the six key elements that athletes felt if you possessed, you would achieve success. Click here to see the six keys to success. We all had a wonderful day with lots of interaction and great questions asked. Well done to Josh for winning the signed volleyball from Jake for being excellent at contributing throughout the day.
