Wednesday 8th February saw the Cranborne Year 7 netball squad compete in the Poole and East Dorset Area Tournament for a place in the county finals. From the off, we had the more difficult side of the draw with Castle Court, St. Edwards and Allenbourn being potential stumbling blocks.
What we thought would be our most difficult
game, Castle Court, was a convincing win: 8-3, followed by another convincing win against Swanage: 8-1. We then came up against St. Michael's who gave us a very competitive game and ended up pipping us 5-4. St. Edward's came
next and what started out as a close game, ending as another good win for the Cranborne team.
It all came down down to the final game against Allenbourn as to whether we could clinch our spot in the semi finals. We knew it would be a well-faught game and it was! End to end action and feisty, competitive play with no team ever being more than one goal ahead. In the final seconds, with the game at 4-4, our GA scored!
We'd done it! On goal difference, we had won our side of the draw and now faced Parkstone Grammar in the semi-final. Another tough game where we worked hard but were outclassed by their extremely tall GS. Parkstone won 17-5.
This meant we faced Allenbourn for 3rd place play off and a place in the county finals. We were taking nothing for granted having narrowly beaten them in the group stage and another very tight game ensued. Unfortunately, this time, it wasn't to be with Allenbourn taking the game 9-5.
The Cranborne team finished 4th out of 14 teams and played some fantastic netball. I was so proud of both their efforts and the manner in which they conducted themselves throughout the tournament. Well done girls!
