Year 8 HW : Why do people want to live in Christchurch in the 21st Century?

Picture
Year 8 are studying Settlement in Year 8 Geography.

Having all been to Hengistbury Head this Summer on a field visit they are using Christchurch as a case study.

Christchurch as a "Settlement" is in the "Situation" of Southern England. All Year 8s have therefore prepared a map like that above and are now communicating why the "Situation" makes the "Settlement" of Christchurch attractive.

The map shows good communication and transport networks to places like London, leisure opportunities (such as in the New Forest), the warm temperate climate from south westerly winds and the employment on offer in the surrounding urban areas. In the lesson we also considered some of the national advantages to living in the UK such as the NHS and a relatively low risk of natural disasters (such as earthquakes).
