School Council MP Visit

On Friday 14th October the school council met Simon Hoare MP for North Dorset and had the opportunity to ask him some questions. The first thing we asked him about was what he felt were the best and worse things about being a Member of Parliament. He said the best thing was when he helped people and was successful at doing so, while the worst thing was just the opposite! It is when he is unable to help someone and is unsuccessful. Meaning that helping people is the best and at the same time worst thing about his job.
Soon after we asked Simon Hoare what it takes to be an MP, he replied that you need to have a thick skin because sometimes when your party does something that people don't like they will be unkind to you on the internet on websites such as Facebook and Twitter. He also said you need to be a bit mad!
The school council then asked about whether he likes our new Prime Minister Theresa May, if he thinks she is a good leader and also what he believes makes a good leader. He said that he thinks Theresa May is a very good leader and he also recalled how once he went on a campaign with her, which she remembers.

It was really interesting to find out more about our MP in my first activity as a school council member.
