India Day - by Year 7

The sights, smells and sounds of India Day are already behind us, but it has left a lasting impression through the experiences and skills learnt. To tell us more, we have a detailed account by one of the pupils:
On Monday, the Year 7 students took part in five different workshops to do with their new topic, India. These five workshops were: Indian drumming, Bollywood dancing, Indian cooking, Indian art and fact finding.

The Indian drumming was a very exciting activity which involved: trying out different kinds of drums like the Tabla, the Khol, the Dhol and many more. The pupils also got to learn a variety of rhythms for each drum.

As well as the Indian drumming, the pupils got to burn off some energy by taking part in Bollywood dancing, where they got to learn a routine to a song called Jai ho. The lady who taught the students, was kind and instructed the Year 7s very well. She was also joined by Mrs Williams, who took part in some demonstrations.

In Food Technology, the year 7s were given instructions and followed them well, which resulted in them making delicious, spicy food so that they could compare notes. After that, the students rated their food out of five for taste, smell, texture and appearance.

Another activity was Indian art, where the pupils got to draw patterns on paper plates. This was a fabulous workshop beacause it meant that the children got to use their imagination and creativity.

When the students did the fact finding, they were able to choose a topic such as: cooking or medicine, and then they did some research on it. The questions that the children had to ask themselves were "How has an aspect of British life been influenced by India?" and "How should I present my work to grab people's attention?".

I would like to thank the Indian drummer, the Indian dancer, the Indian cook and all the parents and teachers who have helped us learn about life in India.
