After weeks of hard work in their English lessons, Year 7 finally reached the end stage in their Charity Speeches unit of work today. Pupils have been learning the art of persuasion and how to deliver an effective and powerful speech, linking to the charity of thier choice. The last few days have seen each pupil in each English set deliver their speech to the class, with classmates voting for their favourites. Today, twelve finalists stood before their year group and Mr Watson in the hope of convincing him to select their charity. This charity then becomes the one that CMS supports and fundraises for over the next twelve months. All twelve finalists produced some powerful speeches which were confidently delivered, making Mr Watson's decision all the more difficult! He will be taking his time to arrive at a final decision and will be announcing the result in our end of term assembly next Friday. Well done Year 7! A very worthy cause.
Following on from a very successful reading-themed tutor time last half term, Year 7 have again spent some time enjoying a host of activities designed to get them engaged in reading. Different tutor groups have taken part in different activities, all centred around encouraging pupils to be more active readers and to read a wider variety of genres. 7CR completed book reviews on their current books, explaining the plot, key characters and what they particularly liked about the book. This was particularly helpful to me to gain ideas for my own two children!
7LH had previously spent some time writing blurbs to selected pictures that Mrs Holmes had chosen. Pupils then had to read out their blurb and other pupils had the challenge of guessing which picture matched the blurb. |
