Year 7 have been very busy in Art lessons this year. In the Autumn term, pupils learned about the art of a group of artists called The Paper Cinema: a local company of artists, puppeteers and musicians who create hand drawn puppets and scenery and perform plays to audiences who watch the action through a live feed to a large screen. Musicians are grouped around the puppeteers and play live music to accompany the storyline.
After watching a trailer for one of their performances (they perform internationally) Year 7 were completely engaged. They worked collaboratively in groups to create puppets and compose and play live music to animate a scene from Shakespeare’s Macbeth, which they had been learning in English. Pupils watched and listened to all performances and each tutor group voted for their favourite performance. Here is a film of one of the winning groups: a superb mix of skilfully made puppets, clever scenery and well thought out music which really matched the mood of the scene. Leave a Reply. |
